Project Briefing and Building overview

From the architect. Bankstown Gardens is a 9-story, 54-unit specialty apartment project set in a landscaped garden. The building is located in a prominent corner of Sydney's Bankstown. The curved corners of the building are treated to reinforce its form and present the building as a gateway to the nearby street scene. The vibrant design uses a cooling panel with daylight control to create exciting friezes on the exterior walls. The diagonal geometry not only clearly delineates the exterior walls, but also enables large-scale glazing and outdoor planting. The juxtaposition of the material's permeability and the white partitions gives the exterior walls a lightness of life.

The design of the building was conceived with an emphasis on environmentally sustainable design. Ventilation shafts are placed on the exterior walls to enhance natural convection. Friezes on the exterior walls provide horizontal daylight control to reduce the need for mechanical ventilation. This reduces heat gain and energy use. The design includes initiatives for precipitation harvesting and recycling water for the garden
